"If you do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've gotten." - Tony Robbins
I am a quote junkie.
Who isn't? We make sure to post our daily quotes for our friends to see, praising the sagacity and creating the notion that the fiber of our souls are made up of the words on our screen. But how many of us actually exercise these quotes into our daily lives? How many of us live by the confessions of our inner voice? Far too few.
I used to be that person. The one who would freely dish out words of wisdom.
BE FEARLESS AND LOVE YOURSELF.
KNOW YOUR WORTH.
YOU MUST MAKE A CHOICE TO TAKE A CHANCE OR YOUR LIFE WILL NEVER CHANGE.
I can't tell you how many times I would be asked for advice from my friends, family ...women,
and these are the things I would say to them, encouraging them to be courageous in their
journey to whatever it was they were seeking: love, health or a happier life.
It is ironic. That we are so good at giving advice, but so bad at living out the true meaning of our
creed. Some of us wish we could commit to the beliefs we offer others.
DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO.
It's almost as if it's become perfectly acceptable to wait in the wings, holding our dreams captive
while we push others to pursue the very things you want. I did this for a long time. Far too long.
Until it hit me. In order to inspire others, I had to first inspire myself.
But what did that mean? It meant doing something drastically different. It meant taking a leap of
faith. It means exactly what Tony Robbins said "If you do what you've always done, you'll always
get what you've gotten."
FEAR (False Evidence Appearing Real), which I talked about in this blog has a way of mastering the mind. Fear is contagious. Fear can paralyze you. Because
change means venturing into a world of unknown, your mind will convince you it's too
dangerous and far too treacherous to risk. But if you can alter the way you feel about fear, you
can change everything. And believe me, I know what you're going to say - change is not easy,
but stagnation is a destiny to death.
So when I was personally faced - again and again - with the same question that had been
racing through my mind for years, I finally decided to listen to my gut. For some it's a feeling
deep, in the pit of their stomach - for others it's a soft but ferocious voice telling you it's time for
something other than what you're doing now.
Whatever it is that you want and whatever it is that you're questioning, go with your gut.
And no, it's not easy. Even as I embark on this journey, learning about what it really means to
feel empowered as a woman and to reach my fullest potential in this lifetime, I am sometimes hit hard by anxiousness.
I recently came back from a women's convention in Las Vegas. The event focused on inspiring,
motivating and empowering women in business. Sometimes I'm still baffled at myself, letting go
of a lucrative career in television news because my gut told me to do something radical, that
inner ferocious voice of mine whispered "jump" - so I went for it. But that doesn't mean I don't
face the same doubts you do. Before the event began, I laid on the couch in my hotel room,
breathing heavily ...panic was taking over me. What are you doing? Where is this going to lead
you to? Maybe I can skip this portion of the event. I don't need to be there do I? As I laid down
in hot pink pajamas, breathing heavily I said loudly to myself "No Nineveh, don't do this to
yourself. You get down there and stop this nonsense." And then I quietly told my heart, pitter
pattering, beating to the rhythm of its own drum that I didn't care how anxious she was, I was
going to take her with me.
And I did. I left the event two days later feeling more inspired, motivated and empowered than
ever before. I don't have all the details of my new roadmap but I know it's leading me to
greatness. CHANGE is mandatory for extraordinary rewards in life.
I will end this with a quote, since I can now say that I live by the sage words I plaster all over my social media pages.
"The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift." - Albert Einstein
