It’s almost time for the next issue of yoU Mag , which I’m so excited about. The writers have amazing topics they will share with you, and I’m ecstatic to share the next Cover Girl with you. I think you will learn a lot from her.
In the last issue, I asked you on yoU Magazine’s Facebook page what questions you wanted the Editor in Chief, (me) to answer. I know that every woman’s interests are different. My goal is to have an impact on as many women as possible. Here are three great questions I wanted to answer. I hope all of you can gain something from it!
“What are some healthy lunches to pack for work?” – Brandi of Salt Lake City
Great question! Many people think healthy meals take a lot of time and preparation. Most often times, that’s not the case. While you should plan your meals ahead of time (make sure you have the ingredients handy), here are some simple tricks for packing meals.
*Always make protein part of your meals. Whether it’s fish, chicken, pork chops, or steak…you can often times grill in bulk. This cuts down in prep time. Grilling chicken breast is the easiest way to go, and remember to add flavors! Nothing is worse than eating a boring “healthy” meal.
*Get your greens in! Salads are simple to make. Combine spinach, heirloom tomatoes, mint leaves, a dash of blueberries and some balsamic dressing. This is one of my favorite salads. Put some chicken on top and package it in glass tupperware. Voila…you have an easy to make lunch for work.
*If you’re craving carbs, throw in a yam or sweet potato wrapped in foil in the oven. Preheat to 450, and let it bake for about an hour. IF you’re feeling adventurous and have a few extra minutes, slice the potato and sprinkle cinnamon on top. Bake it the same (in foil), then broil for the last 10-15 minutes or so to add crisp. Add your potato to a dish of steak & steamed vegetables smothered in garlic, and you’ve got yourself a delectable lunch!
More recipes are available throughout my blog, including my favorite famous protein pancakes. One of my favorite recipes can be found HERE

Ladies you know I have a busy schedule. I’m sure you do too! I won’t pretend to know the many challenges you face during the day that prevents you from packing healthy meals but remember when you are taking care of yourself, you’re taking care of your family and setting a healthy example for them! Change starts with yoU.
“What are some natural ways to fall asleep?” – Kimberly of Magna
Falling asleep can be tough, especially for women. When my husband’s head hits the pillow, he’s OUT! First make sure you’re winding down before you go to bed. Sometimes reading a book can help me doze off. Another trick is keeping the temperature nice and cool in your home. 65-67 degrees seems to be the perfect sleep temperature for the two of us. But here’s what really helps.

Try CALM Magnesium. Each of us drink this at night before bed. That coupled with some Zinc can help you doze off and stay asleep through the night
“How can I reduce the stress hormone cortisol?” – Sarah of Salt Lake City
The most obvious answer to this question, and most generic that you’ve heard time and time again is to “reduce” stress. I know what you’re thinking. I already know this! But how? How can I reduce stress and in turn reduce the hormone cortisol?
Cortisol is a hormone produced by the body in response to stress. It is dangerous because it’s known to increase your blood sugar and suppress the immune system. On top of that, it is responsible for that layer of belly fat you just can’t seem to get rid of. I will tell you from my own personal experiences, while belly fat can be attributed to bad diet, it can also be the result of elevated cortisol levels. Immediately, make sure you’re exercising …even if it’s a brisk walk around your neighborhood. Another great way to reduce stress is yoga or meditation.
However in a world where we’re all searching for a magic pill to be the answer to our health problems, I have personally stumbled on a supplement that claims to help reduce your cortisol levels. It’s called Adrenal Fatigue Fighter by Ridgecrest Herbals and I take two in times of high stress. I have personally noticed a difference. Try it for yourself, but like they always say: consult your physician first to make sure it doesn’t counteract with anything you’re already taking.

It can be found at Vitamin Shoppe at 10515 South State Street in Sandy.
Here is their number: (801-571-1472) Make sure it’s in stock! They don’t carry more than a few bottles at a time
Thanks for stopping by.
