Gotcha. You thought this blog was going to be about being “two faced” …or TOO faced in this case. My other obsession in life, besides blogging about subjects that are thought provoking …is MAKEUP! Some women love to be sans makeup (more power to you!) others like to use it subtly (again more power to you!) but I happen to have a passion for cosmetics that is never satiated. Blame it on my Middle Eastern roots. We like to be bold (on the inside and out). I remember my first doll as a little girl. Cutting her hair, smearing my mother’s makeup on her face – and then continuing the experimentation on myself.

Anyone who knows me – knows I love PINK. Admittedly however as I “grow up” …the shades of pink I indulge in have changed over time.

In comes TURKISH DELIGHT, a lipgloss from NARS. Gone are the days of Wet’n’Wild -although I have a sentimental attachment to the brand. It’s all I ever used when I was young and …well, didn’t want to pay more than 99 cents for lipstick.

As I become more self aware, and get educated about products – I’m starting to wonder if I should treat my skin with the same gentle tender love and care as I do my body. I eat organic. Should my makeup be organic? That’s for a later blog. While I’m slowly making the transition to “better for you” skin care products (biodegradable, earth friendly etc), I have a magnetic attraction to makeup with PIGMENT.

That’s why I love NARS. Pictured above is their new lip line in Turkish delight. It’s a pale pink that glides on, minus the gooey texture some glosses have. It’s become my new favorite shade of pink. Don’t get me wrong, I still rock the magentas – but this is a good compromise for someone who works in news – where being BOLD isn’t always popular. I do think this is a color any woman could wear too. I like that it’s universal.

Speaking of BOLD – eyebrows. Thick is in right? If you read the latest issue of yoU Magazine (found on my website), you’ll know one of our contributors – a makeup artist, recommended the Anastasia Brow Wiz.

Up until now, I used shadow to fill in any spots in my brows. Once upon a time I splurged on DIOR’s version of the brow wiz and the splurge was just too much.

I got the Brow Wiz in medium brown and love it. Thumbs up. Enough said. I already have thick brows but this is a great tool for anyone looking to enhance their brows for date night or anyone who has naturally light eyebrows and wants to thicken them up on the daily.

Next up – another NARS product. Let’s get cheeky. The color? Super Orgasm. Put too much and it’s like an explosion of glitter on your cheeks. But I absolutely love the pigment of this color and of course the sparkles.

And here’s where being TOO FACED comes in. This must be a relatively new makeup line – or I’ve been living in the dark. Since NARS was out of my favorite powder foundation and I desperately needed a replacement stat, a Sephora artist took me to the too faced section. It’s a cocoa powder foundation. That means it’s made out of COCOA and yes, it smells like chocolate. I think the scent alone sold me initially. What I like about Too Faced is it’s light, can be layered and won’t look like you caked makeup on your face. I use a powder brush to apply.

By the way – if you haven’t checked out my extended beauty blog (20 pages) on my TOP TEN Favorite beauty buys under $20, click under E-BOOKS to download it for FREE. Splurging on solid products is great once in a while, but sometimes you have to take a break and mix in more affordable products which can be just as good.
