Strong, NOT Skinny

I’ve been documenting my road to health for quite some time now. Whether it’s on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. I’ve shared this message before but I want to share it again. For me this is not about being SKINNY, it’s about being STRONG and HEALTHY.

There is a huge difference and it took me a long time to realize the difference. As a teenager, I strived to be THIN. The older I got, the more focused I became on becoming fit and healthy. As a woman, I embrace my natural curves and am more comfortable in my own body than ever before. I’m always striving to be more fit, but it takes TIME, DEDICATION and PERSISTENCE. Some of which are difficult to accomplish when it comes to a busy schedule. For years I’d drop 10 pounds then put the 10 pounds back on. I couldn’t figure out why until about a year and a half ago when the light bulb went off: it’s not about DIETING …it’s about changing your LIFESTYLE and your perception of food. Don’t get me wrong, I have a problematic sweet tooth and love chocolate but I’ve learned about moderation. Food and making the right choices will most likely always be a challenge because of my schedule and “to-go” lifestyle BUT something I’m learning to make time for at least 4 days a week is EXERCISE. Because high cholesterol and heart disease run in my family, exercise is important. MOVING is important whether it’s walking on the treadmill or taking a stroll outside. I’ll talk more about conquering my fear of lifting weights and building muscle in another blog post.

Today I wanted to share my perspective on excuses. People always ask me, “How do you find time for exercise? “How do you find time to prepare your meals?”

The answer: I cut my excuses out. Everyone in this world is busy. We have appointments, work, kids, husbands, demanding careers …whatever it may be, we are all part of the same rat race, right?

Instead of telling yourself you can’t, start telling yourself you CAN.

Yes, you CAN find time to exercise. All you have to do now is START. Put one foot in front of the other. It begins with one single action, a single step.
