It’s never too late to START

I was never active growing up. Now that I’m married to a former NFL athlete, I realize I was not active as a kid and I also was never introduced to the world of sports. I was enrolled in dance classes, from jazz to hip hop to ballet …so while I kept my body moving, here and there, I was never a sports chick. I’m still not. I don’t play sports and I don’t particularly enjoy watching sports. I try for the sake of my hubby, but he finds it endearing that I don’t know how many bases there are in baseball. Just kidding. There are four.

So while I wasn’t an active girl growing up, I did fall into the category of chicks who lose 10 pounds, only to gain back 15 more. I was a classic yo-yo dieter. Summer is here? Better lose that winter weight! And so it went on for years. I would get giddy about my new gym membership, enroll with a personal trainer and then after three months, quit. Why? Because I had reached my immediate goal, which was to lose a little weight. But this cycle of losing and gaining continued well into my 20′s until I met my match. He introduced me to a whole new world. Here I was again trying to get in shape, lose those 10 pounds all over again …only this time, he didn’t let me stop. I realize most women aren’t married to an athlete, or have 24 FREE access to a gym (although my husband takes a lot of work haha!!!!), but I want to share this message with you: IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO START.

It is never too late to start your journey of health and fitness. I am 33 years old, and didn’t really START going to the gym consistently until about 8 months ago. August will mark 1 year of solid hard work in the gym. What I’ve realized is the road to health is just that, a ROAD. There are no shortcuts, but I want you to know it’s never too late to start. Beginning is the first step, and if you step out far enough, you’ll have to put your other foot forward. If you keep stepping, eventually your beginning will become a journey, and you will find it filled with days where you feel like quitting, days where you don’t notice a difference …but if you keep walking on that road, if you keep stepping, if you keep going, eventually your journey to health will be something you look forward to. Trust me. Take it from a girl who would have rather sat on the couch, eating cheese and crackers. I still enjoy my cheese and crackers, just not as often.

More on moderation, in another blog but for now remember, the beauty of this thing called life is having a today, and if we’re blessed enough, a tomorrow. So why not start now while you still have the time?
